About the event
Join us for an afternoon of adventure as you try THREE tabletop role playing game systems in a single day.
Players will sign up for 3 games on a first-come, first-served basis via a survey sent out prior to game day.
Each game will be a rapid introduction to the system that uses pre-generated characters, supplied by experienced Game Masters. Games will begin with a 15 minute rules explanation followed by a 60 minute mini-game. Tables will attempt to complete as much of their game as possible in the allotted time, but we will be switching tables at the 60 minute mark, no matter what! (Only a 5 minute break in between!). Tables will be 4-6 players + GM.
More tables will be added based on demand. The following systems will be prioritized based on interest and GM availability. Share your requests with us on Facebook or at gamemaster@sandboxcafe.ca!
1) Pathfinder 2e - an OG TTRPG and fan favourite that is similar to D&D 5e. This is a good system to try if you're familiar with D&D and looking for something easy to slide into. [confirmed]
2) Coyote and Crow - Coyote & Crow the roleplaying game is a multiple award winning and nominated sci-fi and fantasy tabletop role playing game set in a First Nations alternate future where colonization never happened. Unlike D&D, Coyote and Crow is a d12 system that is relatively rules-light and easy to learn! [confirmed]
3) Candela Obscura (Illuminated Worlds System) - This is a brand new system from the world's most famous TTRPG enterprise, Critical Role! Players act as investigators in the gothic horror setting of Candela Obscura using only d6s. If you are used to only D&D, this system will have a learning curve. [confirmed]
4) Paranoia - This comical game set in a dystopian future will make you question your sanity and your friendships. A GM once told us that it was like 1984 meets Looney Tunes and... yes. You are a clone working for Brother Computer at literally impossible tasks, rolling D6s to gauge successes or failures. Don't take it too seriously and you'll have a blast! [confirmed]
5) My Little Pony Roleplaying Game - build your own pony and adventure away! This relatively simple, problem-solving-focused system is comparable D&D 5e. [seeking GM]
6) Animal Adventures - okay, this is actually just D&D. But it's an adapted system where all players play as adventuring animals, complete with adorable animal miniatures like a Labrador Fighter, Shiba Inu Cleric, or Sphinx Sorcerer. This is a great game to learn and bring back to your family (the starter set has all you need to make magic happen at home)! [seeking GM]
